Who knew Bethesda would become such a salsa hot bed?

Beware of the Bethesda Salsa Triangle

First there was the Barking Dog on Tuesday and the next thing I know Jamie and Alfredo are doing something at Divino's on Tuesday and there is also a Salsa venue at South Beach hosted by the BDC ballroom company . The last time something was hot on Tuesday in the DC area was at Lulu's with Ricardo and Elba but that was back in the salsa hey day about 6 years ago. Lulu's is still happening at 22nd and M st nw Washington, DC. and you can still get excellent classes from Avram and Ricardo but it not like it was back in the day But to be honest with you I have not been in a while so I cannot truthfully tell you how it is , I have been going by what my salsa sources have been telling me. So to be fair to Ricardo for all I know Lulu's could be could be off the salsa meter for all I know.

That's just like evrybody telling you who the best instructor in DC is but yet they have only had classes from 2 instructors when there are a lot more. But we will talk about that another day. This story is about Bethesda.

So not only does Bethesda have 3 salsa venues on Tuesday all within a half mile radius, Michelle Reyes is having her grand opening at South Beach tonight in Bethesda which looks like it is going to be a great sala venue. She will be having PsyonMauricio fka as Dee Scott to teach mambo and DJ Mike "El Sonero" Morales of Divino fame to rock the salsa house. They will also have a separate floor for merengue, bachata, reggaeton and hip hop.

I will give you the skinny tomorrow as my partner Doug Fox and I will be covering the event for the Great Dance/StuckOnsalsa newsletter/salsa and http://stuckonsalsa.com

STUCKONSALSA ANNUAL POOL PARTY

The StuckOnSalsa Pool party turned out to be a great time . It was a perfect day to have a pool party. It was sunny, 95 degrees and it was humid. People were dancing in the pool,on the dance floor that was provided and everywhere. DJ Mike "El Sonero" Morales did a great job keeping the music flowing and the party going. Photos of the party can be seen on /photos andhttp://stuckonsalsa.com Afterwards we all went to Yuca for the After party and a great time was had by all as DJ Chris kept the party going. No one had the nerve to get into the wet t shirt contest.

Results of the lock and key party are in

Results of the lock and key party are in and the results are great. Every one had a great time looking for the matches and dancing with new people . All in all it was a great success and we will be doing it again. The only complaint was it did not take as long as people wanted to find the matches. That means we have to get more participation the next time we do it.

RECOVERING FROM THE SALSA CONGRESS

GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYONE, unless you were there it is hard to explain the energy that was spent at the DC Salsa Congress last week . I am sure the whole city is still reeling from the energy that was drained from the salseros who attended the Congress.
It takes a least a week to recover from a Congress.Trust me I know as I have been to my share and can go by my experiences. As Choco aka John Knight put it no one really knew what to expect. We were all hoping and feeling postive but no one knew for sure . Shaka and David pulled everything together and produced a Congress that all the salseros in the area can be proud of.

No more having to smile meekly and look stupid when you are at a major salsa Congress and some one asks you when is DC going to have a Salsa Congress? You can tell them the same time same place next year with confidence and pride in telling people about the Salsa Congress in your home town of Washington, DC

Big salsa shout out to David Melendez and Shaka Brown

DC SALSA CONGRESS 2005 WAS SALSA BANANAS

Good morning everybody please allow me to introduce my self. My name is Earl Rush and I will be your salsa guide for the Great Dance/Stuckonsalsa newsletter. We are based out of Washington, DC but we have info on Salsa all over the United States.

This weekend just might have been just one of the exciting salsa weekends in my life as the DC Salsa Congress 2005 took place here in the Nation´s capital, Washington, DC.

When it was all said and done the DC Salsa Congress was one of the best Congresses that I have been too. It was non stop action. David Melendez and Shaka Brown did a tremendous job of putting this event together. When it was over I WAS SO FILLED WOTH JOYOUS EMOTION I SAt DOWN AND CRIED FOR BEING SO HAPPY.

DC had not had a salsa congress since Ricardo the Wepa man and Elba hooked up with Edie the salsa freak to do the Salsa Web salsa congress in 1999.

Friday night I came in to the ballroom and the place was jamming with Jimmy Bosch and La Romana. JIMMY BOSCH is a grammy award winning musician but on this night playing in front of their hometown crowd and people from all over the world, yes that´s right the DC Salsa Congress was international, La Romana quelled any doubts about how good they were. There were hot hot hot1!!!!! I had never heard them play like that in the last 8 years. They were incredible!! No I am not saying that because Edwin Ortiz the leader of La Romana took time out to acknowledge stuckonsalsa.commy web site for the work we have done for the salsa community and because he let me come on stage and dance , which was truly a highlight for me but because for that 2 hours they played they were in the salsa zone.

I have so much to say right now but I am so tired for the weekend I will have full report tomorrow.

I just want to take the time to thank my new partner Doug Fox for allowing me to be a part of something special which is the Great Dance/StuckonSalsa newsletter.greatdance.com Doug is a sals beast he already has 19 video clips of the Congress on line and 308 pictures posted. greatdance.com/salsa There will be pictures posted all week as the STUCKONSALSA correspondents Janice Woodward,SHEILA MCNEIL, HELENA,WERE ALL COVERING THE CONGRESS THIS WEEKEND. Tomorrow full report on Congress

Eileen Torres celebrates her 6 year anniversay at Zanzibar

Good morning isn't it fitting that we started off a week of which I think will be one of the most pivotal salsa weeks in DC Salsa history with Eileen Torres celebrating her 6 year anniversary at Zanzibar. . The celebration last night featured performances by Violionist, Alfredo De La Fe, with Orquesta La Romana, Dance performances, by: Latin Motion, Salsa Fuego, Trabuco and Son in Motion. DJ's Nancy Alonso and Jim Byers of WPFW were recognized for their many years of hosting Latin Flavor. A retrospect video of the last 6 years at Zanzibar was produced my new partner in Salsa Doug Fox http://greatdance.com. Doug even had the old man in the video after haggling how much I had to pay him to put me in the video. You know me, I am going to try some way to get in the action. It was a great night and I look forward to the next 6 years at Zanzibar. Thanks Doug the money was worth it

StuckOnSala LatinVIp and Kesta DC are presenting Salsa's first ever Lock and Key party

You know StuckOnsalsa we are always trying to be differnt keep things fresh and do things every other promtoer is not doing.
DC is getting ready for Salsa's first ever Lock and Key party. What in the Salsa is a Lock and Key party? A lock a key party goes like this, the women are given locks and guys have keys the guys have to ask the girl to dance and only after can they see if the key fits the lock. This causes people to dance with and mingle with people they do not normally mingle with. The first 6 couples that find their match wins a prize. The DJs for this event will be DJ Andy and DJ Elvira. Thie event will be held the night before the DC Salsa Congress 2005 so there should be a lot of out of town dancers here for Salsa's First Lock and Key Party.http://stuckonsalsa.com/home

Pa'Lante in Philadelphia

I went up to Philadelphia last night to one of the hottest parties figureatively and literally that I have been to in a long time in Phildaelphia. Salseros from DC, Philly, New York, Va, and Boston were in the house dancing up a storm.

My friend Delphina Preston put together one heck of a salsa party.

There was no air conditioner in the room and I and probably hundred more felt like they were getting ready to have a heat stroke. But that did not stop hundreds of salseros from throwing down to Dj Jose Rodriguez and guest Dj Frankie Martinez, that's right Frankie Martinez. Dj Jose Rodriguez a long time favorite of mine will be playing at the StuckOnSalsa stuckonsalsa.com/home social this Sunday June 12, 2005, the weekend of the DC Salsa Congress 2005 http://dcsalsacongress.com. He also will be playing at the the StuckOnsalsa second year anniversary Saturday, July 16, 2005. We will get in to the Salsa Congress in my next post.

Some of the Salsa celebrities in the house besides Dj Jose Rodriguez and Frankie Martinez were Choco from http://www.mambofateegz.com, Thomas Guerrero of Santo Rico Dancers, Shaka Brown who along with David Melendez will be hosting the DC Salsa Congress 2005,Ismael Otero and some of the Caribbean Souls Dancers, Art in Motion from Philadelphia, Jayson Molina who taught workshops earlier in the day,The I-Mambotv crew was in the house, ClaveKazi from Washington, DC , Orlando you were tearing it up as usual, Maribel Soto and Sheila Mc Neil part of the STuckOnSalsa crew,WilMarie of Trabuco,Ronald Rios Soccoro Reyes, and Elizabeth from DC, Darlin Garcia, Mike Andino, Alex , Sazaam, Harry and all the Philly Crew just to name a few.

Below is photo of Frankie Martinez and GoGo Earl:
